I personally like the male singers best. I cant sing along with females cause they hold high notes way to long. Men on the other hand I can sing with. They usually dont hold notes very long (unless yuor Elton John)!!

Geez, this discussion seems kind of circular in terms of my life (I think I could have said that better, but no matter). Grew up in a family of highly accomplished musicians. Had a mahogony Steinway Baby Grand and an electric guitar sitting side-by-side. I played cello in the school orchestra and electric bass with my friends. The serious rock musician in our family was confident enough to openly love Sinatra, and took four of us to see the Bee-Gees live in 1976, which just couldn't have been less cool, even tho the stadium was packed. We pronouced Barry Gibb "A Perfect Human Being" on the way home, he was so utterly charismatic and handsome and stylish, and I guess talented, too,  .Now Young Miss and I share the same tastes in punk and screemo, and She is really catching onto country (Good for Little Miss Yankee!!!!) Sounds like you're including the screaming meemies within the category of actual music. I'll give you that Elton John is a far cry from Mozart, and any number of silly comparisons; but heavy metal bears no resemblance to music. That is, if you define music as something that reaches within you and brings out something quite pleasant. And real. And skillful. Music is, or ought to be something more than piss in a bottle. In the consideration of it, however new, there remains an element of skill that I believe is required of an artist. Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and others. were groundbreakers and pressed the envelope, but they had skill. Morrison had nothing. And so many of the later, popular screamers are skilled only in their outrageousness -- not in their music. I'm not a Sinatra devotee. He was never as good as most. However, he did gain a good following, and he wasn't that bad. Doris Day, Ella, Bennet were eversomuch better. You may shoot me now, but Dino was a better musician than Frank. I'll ramble some more... I'm not opposed to progress; the three Bs were a long time ago and times have changed. But music hasn't. It fits with the time, but it remains opposed to the nonsensical cacophony. Music is harmony and melody and mental ease. And did I mention skill? It is an art that those of us who lack the capability can appreciate. It's the painter or sculpter who makes something awesome compared to the guy who paints with his butt, or takes fieldrock, puts it on a cowpie, and proposes that it's meaningful. It's Ansel Adams and Mad Magazine. It's the Mona Lisa and the velvet Elvis. No. I'm not an elitist, there is room for a whole bunch of expression. But I do reserve the right to call a turd what it is. ole

OK, Ole, I'll site a rather mainstream screemo band. The next time that your heart is hurting really bad and you don't want to go maudlin-sentimental, but get on your feet and fight back, listen to Atreyu's "Ex's and Oh's". Loud. Really LOUD. Get into your favorite pick-up truck, put it in the CD player, and Go For A Ride. Close the windows first, it ain't nice to have all that bass desturb the home-folks. Joanie I agree with you. Barry Gibb is the "Perfect Human Being". He has a great voice, he is sooooooooooo good looking (even though he is grandmas age). He has a charisma that stands out from his brothers and is active in many different charites. I would love to see them in concert but when Maurice died they announced that they wouldnt tour any more. Lucky you!!!
