Really late in this thread. I love all music. But I can't play. Can't sing. I can listen to anything and enjoy it. But I go through stages. My all time favorite is The Beatles. Seemed to define my generation. But I have been known to do some weird stuff - like symphonic music. I have over 200 tapes and CD's of everything from Bach to Vivaldi to Mozart. Give me any song from the 70's. Put me on the dance floor and I can sing every word. (to the chagrin of my wife)

Enjoy classical a great deal. Interesting how the organ riffs of Bach, string of Mozart or Ludwig Van can be hauntingly similar to the guitar riffs of our modern day heroes. Bach, Wagner, Beethoven, Mozart are a few of my favorites. Even though I'm not a trained musicologist, it's interesting to see how each generation of musicians have in some way used those of the past. However, don't see how rap fits into this usage (not a knock on that music genre). Doc C

Doc Yes, there are many similarities in musical style between the classics and modern music. Years ago there was a program on TV that compared the Beatles music to the classics and almost all of their musical compositions had some basis in classical music. One of my favorites is Franz Schubert. Great story. Do you know he never heard one of his symphonies played by a symphonic orchestra? That is what I call perseverance. His "Unfinished Symphony" is one of the best. I am not a fan of Rap either. I guess the degrading comments about women bother me. Sometimes I will see some young person in their car beeboping to the music on their headphones and I will think how they are going to get into an accident. Then I will have a bad day, turn on the local Oldies station, hear "Satisfaction" by the Stones, be slapping my hand on the steering wheel and jivvin in my seat and look over to see some other driver give me one of those looks that could kill. Guess ya gotta be there.

But I go through stages." well the same goes for me. i cant play cause i dont have the patients and i just cant sing. at the moment im goin through a 60's and 70's rock thing along with Salt-n-Pepa's Whatta Man from the 90's ( i think that was when the song came out) to balance it out. most teens dont get my taste in music but i like it

After long and soulsearching deliberation, here's my top 5, in no particular order: 1. Led Zeppelin - the ultimate definition of Sex, Drugs, and Rock'n'Roll. 2. The White Stripes - Jack White is the first guitar god of the 21st Century. 3. Joe Walsh - Forget the Eagles, that's just his day job. When you talk to him, you'd think that he doesn't have 2 brain cells left to rub together, and yet he's a true virtuoso of the guitar. Go figure! 4. The Pretenders - there is nothing like a hot, guitar-slinging babe to get my motor revving. Chrissie Hynde is all that! 5. All Mighty Senators - the greatest undiscovered rock'n'soul band you'll ever see. (They are based in Baltimore, and tour mainly and heavily in the East and SouthEast. Check them out if you have the chance. You'll be glad you did!)

Hi Dixie...Yes, I have tried to watch that movie...and while I do enjoy some musicals, I did not care for it...Much prefer listening to the album with headphones..and while I enjoyed the soundtrack from the movie "Tommy", I did not like the movie (except Clapton's appearance). The original "Tommy" album was much better. I saw the Who perform it at Woodstock and it was GREAT!!!

Yep Doc best rock movie ever Woodstock. Best rock musical play Hair worst rock movie Hair . They ruined it when they made it into a movie. I saw the play twice in Hollywood . Wearing a lace table cloth dress , had angel wing sleeves as the dress was made from a circular lace table cloth. Still have it in the closest . I could never part with it. It really was a 60's dress. It was as long as my finger tips as were the sleeves. Can't believe I ever wore it . Susan

Doc J Great scorcesse film. With a more careful consideration, I believe that these 3 are all so great that ranking them does a disservice and that one should just sit back and enjoy them. I apologize for my previously trying to rank them. As a side note, heard Clapton/Winwood last nite. Clapton was in his zone especially with his version of voodoo chile. Incredible, just incredible. Was nice that they did blindfaith, traffic, derik & the dominoes, delany/bonnie, jj geil material. Was most definitely in the presence of the lord. Feel like i witnessed history.
