Forgot to add one of my all time favorites and possibly the most perfect albums - The Byrds (McQuinns 12 string always gets me) Also, though I don't get into all of his tunes, Buckethead does an occasional great riff, i.e. Kansas Storm, Nottingham Lace. Doc, I hear those first notes of that Rickenbacker and I am right there . The Byrds have one song about Renaissance Faire that I love sooo much. It is about the early days of the Faire here in Southern California. It brings back such great memories . I like the Byrds no matter what make up . . . Gram Parson and Clarence White were a great addition in the later albums. Okay now I am going to get out my complete Byrds book set and sit down and listen . Susan

Bells of Rhymney is my all time favorite. Villages in england would communicate with each other via church bells. One of the many reasons I guess I like the song so much is that one of the towns mentioned in the song is Wye (England) which the American namesake is very close to where I live now in Md and where my ancestors settled in the 17th century. Also, I think some of my country roots come from the Byrds, also New Riders of the Purple Sage, Poco, Dead, Asleep at the Wheel, Flying Burrito Brothers, etc. Doc D

Saw a reunion of Poco a few years ago at Orange Country Fair. Ritchie Furay was amazing . Flying Buritto Brothers was a favorite back when. I saw one of their first concerts at the Ash Grove. A small coffee house in L.A. McGuinn played with them as a guest and showed us this new guitar he had just been given. First time I ever saw an ovation guitar with that rounded back. Those were the days my friend to quote a song from the period .

OK if you want a interesting perspective on 2 artist interpetation of the same song go to limewire and search Brickhouse you can listen to the commodores version and the Rob Zombie version( who my wife listens to suprisingly) Two very different takes.

I'm late joining this but I'll add mine; U2's Joshua Tree. Well actually any U2. Bob Marley's Legend Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. The Wall is pretty dang good too. Any Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Tom Petty, CCR Glory soundtrack "Newer" stuff; Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Chevelle, Metallica, Greenday, Iz, Blue October, Blink 182, Dave Matthews Band, Phish, Keb Mo, RHCP, yadda yadda yadda... Younglobo, Rob Zombie's song "American Witch" rocks in this house. Asking for my favorites is like asking which is my favorite star in the sky.

Heard where Dan Fogelberg died Sunday of prostate cancer. He was 56. My wife and I had his song, 'Longer,' played at our wedding. Considering that we got married less than two years after we met, the lyrics might have been a little optimistic back then. But that was more than 27 years ago. Now the lyrics are more than perfect. Also had Paul Stookey's 'Wedding Song' performed. Still gets to me to this very day.

One of my neighbors here on the eastern shore grew up in Seattle. Hendrix was his friend and classmate. At their last high school reunion they had his picture and memorabilia from school there. Unfortunately, when I asked him if he liked Hendix's music he said "not much". Different strokes for different folks as the saying goes. For Christmas, my wife just got us tickets for the Clapton/Winwood reunion concert in MSG. Saw them play together at Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival in Chicago. I'll truly be "In the presence of the Lord". Doc C

Doc I am truely jealous, Winwood and Clapton. Lucky you. Stevie was one of the best keyboard players in the world back in the day. I was at Borders today returning a defective cd I got yesterday, of course they did not have another copy of the cd a tribute to Tom Russell CD. Sooo I got Revival by John Fogerty. It is soooo good. Hendrix rocked. One of my favorite college stories : One day I took Purple Haze up to the second floor of the dorm to play it for some friends who had never heard of Jimi. I was standing at the head of the stairs talking to another friend swining the album as I talked. Realized a second after that I was holding it so the open part of the album was out. The Record flew out of the album rolled down the stairs and hit the wall taking a huge chuck out of the album. I looked down and said "Purple Haze all over the place " I did get another copy. hmm not sure I have a cd of it . .. . . . might have to fix that problem. Susan

Gotta go with The Beatles as my favorite band and Sgt Pepper as favorite album. Also like The Animals, Rolling Stones from the British Invasion. From the good ol' USA, the Allman Brothers top my list followed by the Creedence, The Band and Grateful Dead. As for more modern bands, I am a big fan of Flogging Molly.

RY As far as the The Animals goes, San Francisco Nights, House of the Rising Sun are great; Sky Pilot incredible anti-war (vietnam era) song; Derek and the Dominoes - does it to me every time, always listen to it; was the album I listened to when my wife, then girl friend, broke up with me. Finally got her back, have kept her for 32 years. Cry every time I hear Bell Bottom Blues. Can relate to Clapton of his love for Harrisons wife. For those who enjoy blues, check out Walter Trout (combination of Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, etc) - INCREDIBLE. Doc C

Doc thing about Animals San Francisco Nights is we who lived in California knew they didn't know San Francisco very well. They sang about WARM San Francisco nights. Never happens in the City. I did like the song anyway though . Also House of the Rising Sun. I have so many verisions of it now but do like the Animals verision. Think I forgot to include anything Janis did in my list. I saw her several times even free in the park once. She was good singing for free , as good or better than she had been the night before when I paid to see her and Big Brother. There is no one else like her . Gram Parsons was also great in all the bands he was in. Saw him live in a small folk club in L.A. with Flying Burrito Brothers. he changed the whole sound of the Byrds when he joined the group. Love Sweetheart of the Rodeo. Susan
