Hello, I'm new to this forum, though with a long time interest in CW history. I 'm researching for a friend who is setting up a musuem display. Any quick references to a person or place to get information about the homefront, etc. in the Western N.C. mountains would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome, Chickamaugua Wind. I'm totally useless in the research department, but you couldn't have found a better place to get some input. ole

Two books are paramount. They are: Bushwhackers by Trotter and The Heart of Confederate Appalachian by Inscoe and McKinney. Where is your friend wanting to concentrate their research? I’ve written extensively on Watauga County and the Toe River Valley (Avery, Mitchell, and Avery Counties). I’ve also written a little about Caldwell County. I've made a note of that. Tar Heel. But I'll misplace the note and have to ask again. Thanks. ole

Not a problem. To be honest, I've seen it spelled both ways. I just prefer Tar Heel.
