It being winter, no baseball, golf or yard work my attention turns to my civil war and geneology research (I really do it year round but the winter allows me more time to devote to it). Would like to propose a question to the board participants. Since many of us have ancestors who participated in the cw, would it be helpful to others and ourselves and stimulate discussion if we posted our ancestors and their regiments? If so I would be glad to post mine.

Nothing to contribute myself but I would find it extremely interesting.

Thanks to the hard work of Texas Defender I pretty much determined last summer that my uncle's father, William H. Clewell, served in Co. A of the 153rd Pennsylvania, 11th Corps under O.O. Howard — the very same corps that was routed at Chancellorsville and was knocked off Blocher's (Barlow's) Knoll at Gettysburg. He played tuba in the regimental band when he wasn't running.

I owe TD a debt of gratitude for his assistance in finding this ancestor, which was pretty much confirmed by my aunt. Since I'm retired and on a fixed income, I couldn't pay TD so I sent him a sample of my wife's buttermilk cake.

Hey, Doc. The Buick Open starts today and Tiger is playing. Golf season has arrived!

Hey, Roger. You into golf?

Yep season has arrived for the pros. Would have to use a purple ball to play up here in the snow today. Interesting about you ancestor in the 153rd. If you look down my list you'll see an Andrew J. Cone who served with the 4th Georgia Co's H, K (Dole's Brigade/Rode's Division) whose regiment went almost head to head with the 153rd on Barlow's Knoll. Here's a partial list. Currently working on some on the list below and some I haven't added as of yet. Would welcome comments.

Chester Fuller, Private in Co. E of the 78th Ohio Infantry.  Long list of service from Feb of '62 - Jan of '65 when he mustered out following Sherman's march.

Samuel Marlow, Private in Co. F of the 65th Indiana Infantry.  He was captured outside of Rome, Georgia and spent the remainder of the war interned as a prisoner of war in Andersonville.  During his detention in the camp he became infected in his eyes and went blind before he was released.

These are the two I currently know of.

I wrote a bio about my ancestor, Charles Ambrose Hibbard of Co. I, 67th OVI, for my genealogy website. Rather than reprint the info here, how about if I give you the link? Here it is:

My g-g-grandfather, James Lovegrove Marlin, fought as a private in Co. B, 2nd Delaware from 1861-1864. He resigned up in February of '65 in the 13th PA Cavalry. I guess he got tired of walking everywhere!
My g-g-granduncle was Horace Greeley, editor of the NY Tribune.

My gosh! I have an uncle whose middle name is Hibbard. I have often wondered about the Hibbard because I guessed it was a surname, not being a name that is often seen as a first name. I'm going to read your link right now.

OK, the Hibbards in my family would have been Pennsylvania Hibbards, not Ohio. I need to dig much deeper into this to find out where they came from prior to Pennsylvania.

By the way, that is a very nice web site you have dedicated to your Civil War ancestor.
