It is our burden to point the boogers in the right direction. It must be very frustrating to them that there are many grups pointing in as many directions as there are. Am certainly glad that I'm not a kid anymore, and that I can see clearly now. (Hah!) "Clearly" is neither certain nor final. Grab it, and it evaporates in your fingers. I'm not envious of the world into which they are going. I can only hope that they have learned to think. ole

I wear Grey when I reenact mostly because I wondered into a CS cav camp at a event as a spectator and they gave me my start back in 1991 so have been CS cav ever since, but have no problem putting on the blue suit. (makes good guerilla camoflage) Never have been called a racist at a event maybe it is the fact that I am usually on my 2,500 lb sorrell quarter horse and they are afraid I and he would run them over. Dixie .. do you like your lemon maragine pie with or without crushed oreos on top?? Last edited on Mon Feb 4th, 2008 06:45 pm by younglobo |

Most people know enough to not argue with a virile young man on a very large horse. Question about the quarter-horse. Know what they are and what they ought to look like, but were they a type before and during the CW? If you would, and I wouldn't know who else to ask, maybe a little rundown on horses of the time? ole

Quarter horsses were quite common, the only difference between the modern and civil war horses evident in this country; "Paints" were indian horses almost completely. It wasn't until the full on expansion into the west that they came to be a regular feature. Before that at the time of the CW horses were generally all one color.

Johann, Thanks for the praise for the boys from Scott's! We certainly appreciate it! In 2006, we were taliking with one of the local people who set-up Clairmont. At that time, he expressed doubts as to it's future. I am really saddened to hear that it's off this year (I just got the Feb. Battery Newsletter, and it says the dates for Clairmont are "TBA"....evidently, that is a moot point now....too bad...) You're right, the towns people really did put a lot of effort and work into making that event happen. As far as I'm concerned, they really treated us well. I shall miss those little sausages they served with breakfast. I'm curious to know what reenactors actions and insults occured, but I won't ask.....none of my business; but I will say I am truely sorry those things happened....it gives the rest of us a bad name. Susan, Thanks for the comments! I am glad someone enjoys my posts! Whenerver I talk about the War or reenacting, my wife rolls her eyes and asks "Can't we ever get through a day without you talking about those things!"

Can't figure out how she does divide her time between us, but yours has exactly the same attitude as mine. "You spent how much time on line?" ole

The only people w/ any bisiness riding a paint would be Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri or Kansas Cav & Tx, the Nation Missouri or Arkansas Cav. In short they were out there but would have been pretty campaign specific.

my twin brother and the rest of my family usually ask me why cant i get through a day without talking about the war. i usually tell them that besides Kenny Chesney and sports its the only thing to hold my attention. they groan at that being said but hey its true. Johan next time you get out of line get your wife to whack ya with a rollin pin. it hurts less and still gets the message across

She preferes her skillet, nice resounding clang sound usually followed by the sound of crumpling laundry as I hit the ground and plead for mercy... at least she only hits me w/ the period skillets (period cast iron was weaker and LIGHTER -thank you God!-) She is the master of the deadly ninja throwing skillet.
