Ole, I just recently re-read "HUCKLEBERRY FINN" and just found myself laughing out loud several times. What a great book. My favorite non Civil War reads are "SON OF THE MORNING STAR", "NICHOLAS AND ALEXANDRA" and the Allan W Eckert series: THE FRONTIERSMAN WILDERNESS EMPIRE THE CONQUERORS THE WILDERNESS WAR GATEWAY TO EMPIRE TWILIGHT OF EMPIRE These are so well done and so detailed. Eckert tells exactly where things happened so that you can almost walk in the very paths they took. Footnotes are so detailed he practically pinpoints where war parties were once camped ... " along the railroad tracks near the present south west corner of the parking lot of the K-Mart on West Philbert Avenue in Great Town, Ohio" sort of thing. I just loved this series. Highly recommended. Dennis Conklin said it all on Page Two in this topic: "Great stuff." Last edited on Fri May 1st, 2009 06:17 pm by chrisfingle |

I just finished reading Bill Sloan's Brotherhood of Heroes which was outstanding. To look at a photograph of a company that went into battle with 235 men and only come out with 85 left is heartbreaking.

I finished reading The Steel Wave by Jeff Sharra yesterday. It is book two of a trilogy about WWII. This book is about the Invasion of Normandy, France, better known as D-day. In my opinion both this book and the one before it, The Rising Tide, were very good.
