Heads up. This could be a bad one. National Hurricane Center now saying it could be at Cat. 4 when it hits the middle of the Gulf - that makes a Cat. 5 landfall very possible.

Looks nasty. I have to say "Thank you" to Fay. Western NC has been in 'exceptional drought' for 2 years now. The three to eight inches of rain we recieved will go a long way toward bringing all the lakes back to full pool. And the forests FINALLY got a good soaking. However, a possible double dose from Gustav could spell trouble.

Sounds like a potentially bad one, at least Jindal is demonstrating leadership versus Blanco. My fellow reservists are getting called up for duty on Saturday in case it hits Texas. But since I retire at midnight on Monday, I won't be going this time.

Thanks Javal and Ed, I'll miss it, the great folks I served with and the money (may be buying fewer books now). They actually told my compadres to report for duty at noon tomorrow now and it looks like it may be a Gustav and Hanna one-two punch as Hanna is forming in the Atlantic now. The track for Gustav is really omminous, if it stays on that track and picks up to a 4 or greater, NOLA will really get smacked. Think Katrina and how bad Mississippi got hit with storm surge and wind damage, for Gustav, NOLA becomes Biloxi.

Good Grief! This is unbelievable. I can tell you right now that I'm getting ready for major flooding, power outages, and disruption of services. And I live in the mountains well inland from the coast. Francis and Charlie trashed our area a few years ago. Looks like we are in for round two. And we just got done rebuilding!

The Mississippi River Valley has certainly gotten hammered this year. Did any of those states ever get to dry out? Poor Arkansas! I drove by a beautiful 500+ acre lake this spring then did a double take when I spotted the grain silos in the middle of it and realized the waves were lapping on the furrows of a field. Gustav is turning the mid west into another Great Lake.
