A few days ago a man who lived on Washington Street in Gettyburg took his metal detector out into his backyard to do some hunting. He "hit" upon what turned out to be a belt buckle. While gigging for the buckle, he noticed some bones and called the police. The police showed up, dug up the bones and shipped them off to York to ID them. Right now that's all I know. If anyone else has more info OR more accurate info, please do not hesitate to respond!

Maybe the battlefield guides will have to change their spiel from, "As recently as a few years ago, a 6'4" set of bones was unearthed next to the Railroad Cut," to "As recently as last week, some guy on Washington Street found a belt buckle--and the bones to go with it!" I'd imagine every now and then for years to come bones will pop up, so to speak. One of the "hazards" of living in Gettysburg. Wasn't it Mamie Eisenhower who found some in her garden at the Eisenhower farm? Pam

I hadn't heard about Memie Eisenhower finding bones. Still, I think it's kind of neat.
