We've been talking lately about your three favorite Civil War movies in existence. How about those Civil War battles, scenes, etc. that aren't in existence but you'd love to see them? What and why? Oh, and maybe who'd you like to see play the parts.

Pam

What would I like to see made? Yea, Franklin would be good.

What needs to be made? Well, it never would be.

It would have to be X-rated, no doubt about it. And no, not a bit of sex. It would show the absolute horror of what 19th-century war really was. Organs being ripped apart, limbs flying dozens of feet as cannister and solid shot tears it apart. A film so horrible even a war veteran would have to avert his eyes.

A film that would teach that this terrible period of our history was not a sporting event to be argued on ideological grounds, where we root, root, root for the home team, extol the virtues of the whole devastating affair, cheer the victor and damn the loser, and in general glamorize war 150 years later.

And should the writer of the screenplay decide to get deep, he could show how this tragic affair tore apart not only families, but regions - and not just for the duration of the war but for a century after it ended.

It wouldn't entertain. It wouldn't please. But it damn well would teach. War is hell.

I'd like to see a Patton-like biopic of Cleburne or maybe Pelham. A film adaptation of Co. Aytch would probably be amusing.

A film on Cleburne would be a good one to see made.

There was a bit of a blow-up regarding this topic. Some posts were deleted. Some were edited. Back to the topic.

Remington Steele guy is too old. Have to think about this. Cleburne is the general I most admire. Not sure who I would have play Hood. More important who would play Granbury?

could just get Hugh Laurie (from House) to play Cleburne,
he's a brit but if he can pretend to be American playing Irish ought to be a piece of cake

Hugh Laurie again is too old to play Cleburne and having a Brit play an Irishman is a real no no.

Obi wan? I imagine you are referring to Iwan McGregor (of the episode 1-3 films) as opposed to sir Alec Guiness... Ever since I saw the Movie Gettysburg I have wondered who would make a good Hood ...:)
