Jazz=no mention of great jazz guitarists such as Django Reinhardt, Wes Montgomery etc. Yet Louis Armstrong gets a ridiculas ammount of credit as a founder of the genre. The War=central theme revolves around his perception of WW2 America as a racist nation etc(which of course is true to an extent but he beat it to death). I love his skills as a film maker but I think he is less than objective and tends to allow his sympathies/biases to overshadow historical integrity. After all he did appear in Gettysburg as a Northern Officer.

The Fort Worth Civil War Round Table is having Ed Bearss for our meeting on February 10th. He will be talking about his experiences as a boy growing up in Montana, in WWII, in the National Park Service, and as the most popular Civil War tourguide. The program is entitled "An evening with Ed Bearss: History's Pied Piper." He will be interviewed by Jack Waugh - author of the Class of 1846 and Ed's biography. watching the super bowl and thinking of this thread gave me the analogy that Burns was basically documenting the 1967 super bowl using only footbal photos from the decade of the 60s...

Captain then you would have loved the play I went to many years ago now , The Donner Party a Musical. Ken Burns would never have made that into a film.

Mike The evening with Ed Bearss was superb. He has the best stories both on Civil War history and his personal life. His recounting of being wounded in battle in WWII was told like he was talking about A.S. Johnson being wounded at Shiloh. Thankfully, the outcome was different. A highlight of the evening was having Jack Waugh do the "interview." Jack was able to keep it flowing and asked the right questions to keep up the interest of the group. Many said it was one of the best meetings we have ever had. Ed's health is good. He lit up when I mentioned that Mike and Giro said hello!

Thanks so much for saying "Hi!" and I am glad the meeting was a success. He is such a remarkable man and I am glad to hear he is in good health. My friend and I have had the great fortune to tour with Ed on numerous occasions over the last 15 years and we are truly amazed at his knowledge, enthusiasm and stamina. All the best to you! Mike
