Folks,

Exciting news (to us anyway). While we've run CWi for a dozen years now, we've always felt a bit constricted. My love is American history - not just the Civil War. And our true passion lies in historic preservation. So we're happy to announce that we have decided to build a second website.

We don't expect the new site to be ready for 3 to 6 months. It's being built from scratch. It will (like CWi) focus on daily news. It will have it's own forum. Other features will be announced in the future. But tonight we took the first steps - we obtained the domain name preservationdaily.com. In addition, we purchased the server space we'll need.

The site will concentrate on preservation from the founding of America up to the late 20th century. We're psyched to begin this project, and hope all of you will be future readers!

That is so cool! Just one example, there is so much interesting history in the Florida Keys, but not a lot of interest in it. The pirate history alone there is fascinating. Another arear of interest is the Keys' rich history of sunken treasure, most especially Spanish sunken treasure.

I can't wait to check out your new site.

Fan  I also learned alot about other history in Florida when I was there last year.  Spanish explorers and settlers, Cracker culture and it's role in Span Am war.  fort DeSoto was very interesting .

Glad to see the enthusiasm. What made me take this plunge is the number of times I've had to pass over preservation stories, be it Key West, Valley Forge, early 20th-century western history and all the rest simply because I had to pick out ONLY Civil War related stories.

Laurie asked me an interesting question last night - "what year will be your cut-off." I had to think about that. I decided there can't be such a thing as a cutoff by year. What's going on now at the WTC site qualifies as preservation to a point. Repairing a crack in the Vietnam Memorial qualifies as preservation. And on and on. The possibilities are endless. As I always say, today is current events, yesterday is history.

And as always, what YOU want to see is vital input.

I know I haven't posted much, but I'm still lurking. I like this idea of an expanded site dedicated to historical preservation. Will it be strictly US-related, or will it include historical preservation in other countries?

Yeah, I can't wait till the season starts. Zoom! Zoom! Although I'm not really thrilled with the change in format to the Bud Shoot Out (or whatever they're calling it these days). Less to do with quality of product and more to do with making sure all the manufacturers get cars into the field. Sheess!!

As for the preservation thing? If it's limited to US-related only, I should put away any thoughts on promoting preservation efforts at places like Tewksbury and Bosworth over in England, right? ;)

'Fraid so Kathleen. If I had a staff of 10, maybe I'd consider world-wide, but it's just little ol' me and my hands are gonna be full running two sites as it is :)

Gotta admire a man who puts so much time and effort into running boards like this. Great job, BTW. I hope to get more involved in some of the other discussions going on, but when I read what some folks post, I feel woefully lacking!

It's an admirable venture and certainly much desired. Although I have an extreme interest in all history, I'm somewhat involved in the CW. I don't see much time on the horizon for anything else.

Ole

Folks,

An update on the new project. I have chosen the theme for the new site as well as it's basic structure. You can have a sneak peek here.

Your input is valuable. What would you like to see in a site like Preservation Daily? Anything you don't see there already? If so, please let us know.
