But there is an editor's cut on dvd. Can't find it in this mess and don't have time to look for it, but it is more than an hour longer than the release. Someone will know where to find it. Ole

Ole: I've never seen the Director's Cut on an official DVD it was only released on VCR and broadcast on TV.

Nevertheless, David, I have one on dvd. It is likely a copy and possibly pirated, but I do have it. And the extra hour or so is well worth watching. It does make commercial sense to slaughter a movie and leave some really good stuff on the cutting-room floor. Your basic movie-goer is not going to care much more than butt comfort. Us freakazoids will endure all kinds of discomfort (with the exeption of a lack of beer or popcorn) to see every second of that which was cut. On the other hand, if there is a director's cut of "Gods and Generals," I don't want to see it. I have yet to watch that all the way through. In one sitting. I either get an irresistable desire to go to the hardware store or cook up a snack somewhere about 20 minutes into it. Dropping off into a nap is also a factor. Ole

I like G&G but I know I'm in the minority....I found myself wishing it was longer....LOL! But then I'm the guy who could set through Gettysburg twice in one day at the theater w/o major damage to my gluteal region. I'm like the seated version of Jackson's foot cavalry....:-D

Captain, I also like G&G, but it drags. I'm a bit overly impatient when movies drag, so I start mumbling at the screen and then find a reason to hit the grocery store.

The only director's cut I was ever able to find was on Laserdisc. It came with a book about the battle, pictures of Lee, Longstreet, Chamberlain, and I think Buford, a map of the battle, and a Civil War bullet in a pouch. Had to buy a laserdisc player special for it, but it's not an hour longer. More like 20 minutes or so.

I, too, actually found myself enjoying G&G when I went to the theater to watch it, but later? At home on DVD? I got bored. From a cinematic point of view, they should have stuck with just one storyline -- the one about Jackson. The parts with Chamberlain almost seemd like an afterthought. I enjoy very much the extended version of Gettysburg. I got mine on VHS shortly after the movie was released on tape. It was part of a set -- probably that same set someone else mentioned, complete with book, bullet and such.
