Thanks Captain Crow but I'm not sure there is any truth to the historical background. Probably a furphy. Have been through the list of historical markers in the link supplied by Javal1 but nothing there in Nevada, California, Arizona or New Mexico. Cheers Chris

here's a little more info on the marker in question from a recent book, Gone with the glory By Brian Steel Wills: http://books.google.com/books?id=sLt9S9pSwhYC&pg=PT1&dq=Gone+with+the+Glory:+The+History+of+the+Civil+War+in+Cinema&client=firefox-a just type in the name of the movie in the search box in the upper left and you will find the authors take on the marker and RM.
