I am a new member here but a long time Civil War historian by avocation. Two things. First I have been researching for a book about a little known engagement during the Gettysburg Campaign for more than several years. I will keep this forum posted on the research, final phase of the writing and publication. It's a very exciting subject. Secondly, note your calendars. October 7-9, 2005 is the GRACE UNDER FIRE event from Gettysburg Pa to Williamsport Md. Caravan, living history, medical events, lectures, sutlers, tours and much more. Of special note is the Authors Forum at the nearby Saint James School featuring a number of Civil War historians and authors. The forum will be Sunday October 9. Authors includes Kent Masterson Brown Esq whose RETREAT FROM GETTYSBURG book which came out earlier this year has attracted so much attention. See http://www.grace-under-fire.us for more information on the events.

See: http://www.grace-under-fire.us for information on events in and around Williamsport, Maryland - near both Gettsyburg and also Antietam battlefields - for a weekend full of high quality Civil War events. Living history, music, medical, sutlers, art, books, food, great forum with top authors, auction, tours of battlefields and Civil War sites in the town and surrounding area - and much, much more. Also, still signing up last minute - living history, medical, civilian, musicians, etc. See the web site for information. George Franks

Hello All, In my research of the Gettysburg area, I stumbled across a website for the Battle of Monterey Pass. The website is an excellent one, providing a ton of information about the battle that was part of the retreat from Gettysburg. The website was created by John Miller, who is the founder of the Monterey Pass Battlefield Association, an organization dedicated to the preservation and education of the battle. According to the website, Mr. Miller has dedicated the last 10 years to researching and preserving this little known battlefield, which reserves the honor of being the only battle fought in 4 counties within 2 states. Mr. Miller has a book available on the website that I just received and it is a very well written and very educational read! All of the proceeds from the book go toward the installation of an interpretational marker to be placed on the battlefield. Anyone who is interested in learning more about the Battle of Monterey Pass or Mr. Miller's book should check out the website at http://www.emmitsburg.net/montereypass It will be well worth your time!
