June 13, 1863 I put this map here to show their longest day march. There is a closer route but it lends itself to ambushes which they certainly did not want. ![]() Moorefield Old route 55 was the route at that time the Brigade used which took them right by the Hardy County Court House at Moorefield, West Virginia, shown below. ![]() The brigade turned North, which is the picture's left, and proceeded to Old Field's to camp. Here is a good view of the Brigades camping area. The South Branch of The Potomac River. Note the 2 ridges where the Potomac runs through. That is called The Trough. At this point making a decision which way to go to Romney was on the Generals mind. He finally decided to take the Trough Road which is just to the right of the ridges.. http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/iZGUngte7dGjI7jQWcfnkA?feat=directlink Last edited on Mon Jun 14th, 2010 12:34 am by Old Blu |
