Folks,

I admit there are mornings I dread getting up at 4am to dig through thousands of news articles to pick out the relevent Civil War stories. But every once in a while , a story comes up that really brings the excitement back.

Any of you who have been to Franklin, TN know that the place is a congested, commercial mess, where the preservation of one of the Civil War's most violent battles seems an after-thought. Yes, we got the eastern flank area as a park, we have Carter House and Carnton, and recently the Lotz House.

But today news came of what I consider will be the greatest, most important pending acquisition of all....read and celebrate!

Small strip mall, Domino’s Pizza to give way to new battlefied park

For what it is worth I can only say that I for one really appreciate your efforts in bringing the Civil War News to us on a daily basis. I know that with my limited computer search skills and lack of time I would never get to read but a fraction of these stories were it not for this site.

Is this near the site where Patrick Cleburne fell?

Regardless, I am so pleased that more land will be available to commemorate the Battle of Franklin. It is stunning how little attention is paid to this vitally important battle  both to the Army of Tennessee and to the Union Army that fought so bitterly at Franklin.

Yes, the grant will help cover the cost of saving land in the general area where Cleburne fell.  Presently the land is being used for commercial purposes, so it's expensive.
