A bill that would have expanded the boundaries of the Gettysburg National Military Park to include the Gettysburg Railroad Station on Gettysburg’s Lincoln Square and a 45-acre tract south of the battlefield, along Plum Run has died in the Senate. The package, deemed "stuffed full of costly programs and wasteful spending," was passed by the House of Representatives earlier this year. Rep. Todd Platts had included the bill to expand the Gettysburg National Military Park boundries. He stated he plans to re-introduce this part of the bill when Congress starts again in 2011. Not familiar with what expenses would be incurred by the NPS, other than buying the train station from the borough, to expand the border of the park, both for the train station and the 45-acre Plum Run Tract. I'm sure there is money involved, otherwise there isn't much reason to not expand the park boundaries.
