Yahoo has posted a trailer for the Robert Redford film, "The Conspirator" about the trial, conviction and hanging of Mary Surratt. There are some excellent actors in this movie. I hope this link works. http://www.movies.yahoo.com/movie/1810194800/video

Good actors can mean nothing if the script isn't there, if the director does a bad job directing them, or if the production itself is below par. So I don't think the names mean anything here. The trailer looks interesting and it could be a good movie. However, the purpose of a trailer is to spark interest, and I've seen trailers which look fantastic but the movie then turns out to not live up to the expectations created by the trailers. Hopefully that isn't the case here.

Hubby and I have been going to movies for decades. We have been disappointed many times when a trailer was the best part of a movie. I have noticed this particularly with comedies in which the funniest jokes are all in the trailer and the rest of the movie yields barely a laugh. Still, I have high hopes for this movie. It is a compelling story, plus so seldom is attention given to Mary Surratt. Historians concentrate on John Wilkes Booth and even Dr. Mudd, much more so than Mary Surratt. Plus to go to the extreme of hanging a woman in those days makes for quite a bit of drama too.

Exchange the word "Hubby" for "My wife" and I will ditto everything Cleburne Fan said. The trailer looks really good. I have to tell myself that when movies like this are made, most people don't have the same interests as us, and therefore won't have the same critical eye. I wonder, for example, what percentage of Americans know who John Wilkes Booth is? Then I wonder what percentage know who Mary Surratt is? And then I wonder how many people know what actually happened when Lincoln was assassinated and what transpired in the following days. My guess is, sadly, not a large percentage. I don't think that most people will be watching the movie the same way that people that are on this board will watch it. So...I guess I'll understand if some liberties are taken. I'm excited to see it.
