Turner Classic Movie cable channel will honor the 150th anniversary of the Civil War with movies shown on Monday & Wednesday throughout the month of April. The list of films include: Gone With the Wind, Raintree County, Friendly Pursuasion, Band of Angels, Of Human Hearts, Little Women (1949 version), Birth of a Nation (1915; silent), The Coward (1915; silent), The General (1927; silent), Grandma's Boy (1922; silent), Uncle Tom's Cabin (1927; silent), A Southern Yankee, The Littlest Rebel, Adavance to the Rear, Golden Girl, General Spanky (Our Gang short), Outlaw Josey Wales, Major Dundee, The Horse Soldiers, Escape from Fort Bravo, A Time for Killing, Alvarez Kelly, Virginia City, The Seige at Red River, Great Day in the Morning, Hangman's Knot, Glory, Gettysburg, Red Badge of Courage (Audie Murphy version), Abraham Lincoln (1931), Tenessee Johnson, Durango, Romance of Rosy Ridge, Count Three & Pray. All silent films will have a musical score. Some of the films do not deal with the Civil War per se, but take place during the time. Am kinda disappointe dthat they did not schedule THE TALL TARGET (about Lincoln's attempted assination going to Washington.

Any of these from Disney? If so, then I'm a little surprised their not airing The Great Locomotive Chase. Course if none are, then I figure they probably don't air Disney movies. To be honest, I've watched TCM for some older movies (and have been surprised at seeing some I never expected to see as I always thought they were too new to be aired on TCM, thought by classic they meant they had to be before a certain date) but I don't remember seeing any Disney movies aired on it. Course it could be argued that Turner doesn't own any Disney movies and thus doesn't have the rights to air them. None are Disney films, although TCM has aired some Disney films. I was also kind of surprised they aren't showing the Disney film called JOHNNY SHILO. But I guess we can't have everything.

True. We could probably come up with a list of movies, whether we like them all ourselves or not, of movies they could have added to the list. They've got their reasons for picking the movies they did and leaving others off.

I just had a thought. How old do the movies have to be at the youngest? The youngest movie on the TCM list that I'm sure of is Gettysburg, and that was 1993 release wise. I'd have to look through all of the movies that don't specifiy a year to see if there's any younger than that. If not, do we say this list can't contain anything younger than '93

No, I'd say list ALL films pertaining to CW. I think the most recent one would be COLD HARBOR. This doesn't count the upcoming film by Robert Redford about the Lincoln conspirators.

I think The Conspirator is an absolute can not add to the list for two reasons. First, it hasn't been released in theaters yet. According to IMDb it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last September and was first aired here at the Savannah Film and Video Festival in November. But it's US theatrical release isn't until the 15th of next month. And second, it seems more likely that TCM would play movies after their no longer in theaters and likely up for sale. Or could be for sale whether they actually are or not. Not trying to put the Redford movie down, just saying I don't think we can add it to the list of movies we'd like to see added to the list of what TCM is playing next month.

Duly noted, Hellcat. I do cast my vote for THE TALL TARGET! Great film by Anthony Mann. Am surprised TCM is not airing it in the CW group (even though the film is BEFORE CW - 1860). Guess I am just biased.

Crow....Whe RWTD first came out, I was foolishly stbborn because it had Jewel in it and my (erroneous) understanding was that it was a "romance".....15 years later, a reenacting Buddy said I really needed to see it, so I reluctantly did....I ended up buyin a copy and lovin it!! As I said earlier, I REALLY like the dialogue.....Have you ever tried to carry on a conversation in the same stylw??.....It's hard!!!....I think Toby McGuire was cast perfectly in that role!!!...I have a new respect for him because of it!!

Basically just movies that folks think maybe should have been added but weren't. Things folks might have liked to watch in addition to what TCM came up with.
