Is it just me but would a movie staring Sickles be a hit. I admit he was a piece of work but he was interesting to say the least. When you look up public relations in the dictionary you should see his picture. Intimately related to him since one of my distant relatives was Keys. Doc C

They'd age Teresa Sickles to eighteen or her early twenties when they got married for the movie. The way things are today seems no way Hollywood would depict a fifteen year old marrying somene literally more than twice her age. As scandalous as it may have been back then I'd dare say it was still far more accepted than it is today. Even if you did say they were married for three or more years before they had sex (and considering their daughter was born about seven months after they got married we no that never happened) there'd still be folks leaving the theater who knew nothing about what actually happened saying they had to have been having sex since they got married. Of course given the politican sex scandals of today a Sickles movie would fit into the modern world rather well. Politician known for cavorting with a prostitute, even taking her to England while his wife was pregnant. Most likely had sex with his wife before they were even married (unless Laura was born two months premature and miracuously managed to survive at that time you've got to know Teresa was pregnant when they got married). Wife having an affair with another man. Politician kills the man wife's having an affair with. Politician later, much later, goes on to have an affair with a former Queen of Spain. And who knows how many other affairs he had. Would be a made for Hollywood movie.

Sickles would make a great movie. He is one of my all time favorite scoundrels. Hollywood wouldn't even have to make up a lot of sex and violence for this one.

In addition to the above - never really know Sickles true age due to his being possibly born out of wedlock, for a number of years he grew up and lived in Teresas home and some speculate he had an affair with her mother. Doc C Last edited on Mon May 9th, 2011 01:29 pm by Doc Ce |

That's possible. From what I read Teresa's grandfather supposedly befriended Sickles when he was a teen and helped him get into the New York University. He lived in his house for about a year until his death. Sickles had known Teresa since she was a baby. Would really have to do research on when Da Ponte befriended Sickles and let him live in his home, but it could have been before his granddaughter was born. Even if Sickles was living there after her birth, could it be he was visiting his adopted daughter before Teresa came along? Yeah, I know what I'm suggesting. And it's not unheard of in this country. I'm thinking in particular of a certain family from NY who had two members of the faily become CiC.

Could make a movie just on his relationship with Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln alone. Doc C

All the juicy details? What, are we talking a possible movie or sitting around a table trading gossip? A mini-series would work if it were a good old fashioned mini-series. By which I mean it's something that requires a minimum of three days to air, not this two days nonsense they use so often today as a mini-series. They still make the old fashioned style miniseries, but I get tired of hearing so often about the mini-series event of the ear and it ends up being just a two night event. But I think you'd get more folks watching it if it's on the big screen. If you want to get more of the scandals involved, then maybe a trilogy using the old fashioned intermission style movies. Have each half be like two or two and a half hours long and then a ten to fifteen minute intermission. It's been said they don't do movies like that anymore cause their too long for folks to sit through. Personally it's more about cost. Not the cost to make the movie, the cost for the theaters to show it. The run a two, two and a half hour movie something like three or four times a night and can make a lot more money. They don't want movies with intermissions cause they can't jack up the ticket prices and hope to get people actually paying for them. But with how folks like political scandals these days, I wouldn't be terribly suprised if they made it an intermission style movie and they had folks going to watch as long as they kept the normal prices.

Why do I here cheesy music appropriate to a '70s or '80s adult theater when I think of music by Philip Barton Key? Though that does seem approrpriate to Sickles.
