I have put a great deal of time into Cedar Mountain and still I am not finished. I am standing on the Crittenden Lane taking this picture looking N-East, Cedar Mountain to the right. The corn field according to what I have seen runs along the little rise in the background. If the CSA soldiers were on the ground 10-20 yards from Critteden Lane waiting for an attack, as one can see, the break of the hill, soldiers can't be seen through cornfield pryer to attacking, both army's were thrown together rather quickly. Old Blu An ancestor of mine was killed by an artilery shell there, Gen. Charles Winder. Another, Gen. Lloyd Tilghman was killed by an artilery shell at Champions Hill fired from the battery of another ancestor in the Chicago Merchantile Battery. The battle field looks to have been preserved very good. Just watched a thing on Ox Hill. A shame that the places our ancestors occupied so long ago there on both sides has vanished, due to progress. I would rather have the battle field. Pender
