I am attaching a file which is a scanned portion of a Civil War map. Can anyone tell me the name of this Confederate colonel ? I cannot read it no matter how hard I try. The only hints I have are that he was involved in the defense of Lynchburg during the battle of Lynchburg in 1864, and I am almost certain that he was an artillery officer. Looks like it says Kicker to me The shape of the first letter in the Colonel's name looks to me like how a cursive K is supposed to be formed rather than that of a cursive H.

I'm torn as to whether I think that is an "H" or a "K" ... For a brief minute, I thought it might've been Delaware Kemper, but I can't find that he was ever promoted from Captain ... OOB's for 16-17 June @ Lynchburg seem to be lacking on the internet, but the OR's for the battle are here: http://ebooks.library.cornell.edu/m/moawar//text/waro0070.txt (not that I found anything useful for the question there ...)

Edmund Rucker was a Cavalry Colonel under Forrest, but in June of 64, he was at Tishomingo Creek ... (later at Franklin, then lost an arm & was captured at Nashville.) But yes, looking at the image again, I can read it as "Rucker" ...
