Was making a comment to someone about Rob Lowe and they told me about this upcoming TV mini-series (coming in 2013). Looking at the cast list, Lowe is going to be Longstreet, Stephen Lang is Lincoln, Dwight Yoakam as Meade, Noah Wyle as Pickett, Damian Lewis as James McPherson, Bill Paxton as Stonewall Jackson, Will Patton as Lee, Kevin Farley as Henry Halleck, D.B. Sweeny and McClellan, Micheal C. Hall as Grant, Kim Delaney as Mary Todd Lincoln, Trace Adkins as John Gregg. I'll let folks check out the IMDb page to get a full listing, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2032276/. According to IMDb it's going to be an eight part mini-series produced by Sony so I'm wondering if it's going to be for HBO. It's two years away but I'll be honest here. I look at some of the names and just wonder if their right for who their playing. Lang I'll give him a chance at Lincoln. Picture him more as Pickett and Jackson thanks to his having played both in Gettysburg and Gods and Generals. With those in mind I'll give him a chance and see how he does. After seeing the extra features on Band of Brothers and being surprised to learn Lewis was an Englishman (I really would have sworn from the accent he was an American) I'll give him a chance. But Wyle as Pickett? And I can't really picture Lowe as Pete Longstreet, or Hall as Grant. But maybe the folks I can't picture will be more believable in their roles.

Why, because he's in it or because he's playing Meade? To be honest I don't know what to think of this miniseries. I'm having a hard time picturing Noah Wyle and Rob Lowe as George Pickett and Longstreet respectively myself. Neither seem right to me. And the guy they got for Grant just doesn't look the part even without the beard. But it's supposed to be out in 2013, maybe they'll change opinions then. Or maybe it will be down the drain.

Just can not see him playing Meade. Can you? I hope it is good, would like to see a good Civil War film. Will have to wait for it when it comes out on dvd, don't have HBO. I agree about Stephen Lang, after seeing him play Pickett and Jackson it will be hard seeing him as Lincoln. Pender

After seeing Mr. Lang play Pickett and Jackson, I'm having a hard time watching him get chased by dinosaurs in Terra Nova! Very versatile actor indeed. Mark

No, never did say I could picture Yoakam as Meade. But after seeing him play Pickett and Jackson it is easier picturing Lang playing Lincoln than it is picturing a lot of the others in their roles. That's not to say it's necessarily easy to picture him in the role, only that after seeing him playing two different individuals from the war it's easier to picture him in the role than it is Noah Wyle as Pickett.

how in the heck are they going to get Bill paxton to pass as Stonewall? And Trace Adkins as John Gregg? I dont think they could have picked a more off hand cast.

When one films something, casting is a big factor. Get some big box-office names for the epics. Get some actors for lesser films ... and get some good ones who will work for peanuts on the small ones. "To Appomattox" will be a TV special. Not all that remunerative -- we're not talking billions. And those who do watch it will be hypercritical. A cliff-hanger. Lets not make judgements until we've watched it. Personally, I've followed the intentions of the author/producer and he sounds sincere. I do believe he (Becks) is trying to do it right. He cannot afford really big names; just those who want some kind of paycheck until the next big offer. The draws are not lining up to earn scale. He has lined up technical advisors who I trust. What comes out of the editing is speculation. Somewhere in there, some magic happens. It will be what it will be.

How in the heck could they pass off Lang as both Picket and Jackson? This might not be history, but it can be if we just lighten up. It is entertainment.
