Welcome to the board! I had an ancestor in the 8th Texas Rangers during the Civil War. This can be a pretty informative message board. The whole range of Civil War topics get covered in here.

what was his name? my great granddad may have known him. its funny, i started riding with the rangers back in the 90s, then i got married and decided to check out my geneology so i could know more of my family history to tell my kids, and discovered that i had three ancestors that rode in tex cav units, including the 8th. i then signed up in the texas state guard, and found myself in the 8th civil affairs regiment, terrys texas rangers. ironic that lol. that said, does anyone know of anyone wanting to sell a black powder shotgun? Texas Dimmitt was his name. He fits into the family tree as my 3rd cousin. As you can tell by my avatar Im biased towards the Yankee point of view...but I do respect the Confederate side of the family. The defiance shown by the South in the war is a real testament to the American character.

Howdy, texaswolf!!.....I'll be at the 150th Shiloh, too.....Scott's TN Battery.... We were at the 150th Wilson's Creek last year. A sutler had an old percussion shot-gun, double barrel, cut short for $300.....After thinking about it & deciding to get it, when I had gone back to Sutler Row, it had already been sold......So, you may be able to pick one up at Shiloh, but, if you want one specifically for Shiloh, I wouldn't depend on anyone having one for sure....Check the Shiloh 150th webstite to find out which sutlers will be there, email them and ask if they'll have any....I know Dixie Gun Works will be there, but shudder to think at their price!!

No worries bout the Yankee thing! As I explain to my 7 year old, there were plenty of Federals with honor, and we are all in the same country now. Be Well Wolf
