To observe the 150th anniversary of the Civil War there will be a 12-night cruise on the American Queen Steamboat with port calls in New Orleans, Vicksburg and Chattanooga. The sailing is this August 9.

Special added features will include a showing of a new PBS show, "This Republic of Suffering" and film maker Ric Burns will be on board too.

Crown Cruise Vacations is arranging the cruise. Fares start at $2,895 and go to $8,495. I do not know if these fares are quoted as per person rates or two in a room rates. Ocean cruises quote prices per person. I don't know about river cruise pricing. Also I don't know if these prices include taxes, port fees, and trip insurance. Ocean cruise price quotes do not include taxes and other fees.

Also, I don't know if the price of tours is included. On mass market cruise ships, tour pricing is extra and not included in the basic fare.

If you would like more information, call (855) 788-7880.

For myself, I would just love to do this cruise, but I find the prices really steep, especially if they are quoted at per person rates. It is a 12-night cruise, however.

I learned about this special cruise in the March 30, 2012 Palm Beach Post in a brief paragraph contributed by travel writer Gerry Barker.
