I visited the Perryville Battlefield this past weekend. Due to a bad knee I was pretty restricted in seeing everything. But I was able to walk up and down Loomis Heights. I saw the 42nd Indiana marker which was pretty cool because I had 3 ancestors in that regiment. Standing on the very ground that they were on when the SHTF was pretty neat. I was able to move around some on the field but I know I missed a lot of the field. Imagining those fields full of about 10,000 casualties was something. I've started reading Perryville: Havoc of Battle. Reading the book and having gone to the battlefield gives you an extra sense of what was going on. I plan on making another trip back if my knee ever heals up. Anyway if anybody is thinking of going its worth it.

have not been to perryville in over 25 years. at the time it was rolling fields, 2 trailhead parking lots, maybe half a dozen markers and a type-written, photo-copied trail guide...

Noe's book on Perryville is very well written. You feel like you were there. It was a real hellish battle that is for sure. Course I imagine all of the Civil War battles were. Only thing I didn't care much for at the battlefield is the shelter house right where the Confederate assault on Open Knob marched through. But its still a good place to visit.

I liked Noe's book as well, but I thought it needed more maps. Mark
