Mana:
Nearest I can get to it is that it is a form of "like" button.

Mana:
Since: "Mana" was mentioned very recently on another thread, I have decided to throw in my .02 on the topic.

My preference would be for javal to eliminate mana completely from the board.

Another CW forum that I have seen assigned ranks to all of its members, apparently based solely on the number of postings that they made. I don't think that that is a very good idea, either.

I have been assigned a rank for my entire adult life and even have one in retirement. I have no need or desire for another. It seems that the media and the society in general have a continuing need to classify people in every possible way. Many people do not fit well into categories.

Mana:
My guess is that mana was originally meant to rate threads rather than posters. So if you read a post you think is good, you click on the posters name and add mana. Just a guess on my part, since it confuses me as much as all of you. Best bet - ignore it.

You're right, TD, it's not. I've been in a couple of forums that did that and you can run into a problem with folks just posting quick posts or nonsensical posts just to up their post count in order to reach a particular rank.

Javal, I'm to blame for the recent deal with mana. I wrote in the "the man called stonewall" thread:

Top right of the page. Rate Topic. About as close as you'll get to a like button. Unless you mean people. In which case that's the mana button beside their screen name and avatar. Though javal has said that didn't work as he wanted it to.

Not so sure about that, TD. It does say at the top that for other uses to see the Mana (disambiguation) page. Could be we're talking the underworld from Finnic mythology.

Hellcat-

As H.L. Mencken used to respond when he got critical correspondence:

"Dear Sir (Or Madam), You might be right."        ;)
