Nope don't apologize. Lots of opionions are needed for an interesting conversation. Welcome to the board by the way. I love it when favorite songs of mine happen to be placed in a great film. Like Master and Commander for example. Boccherini's violin quintet and also Bach's cello suite? Perfection.

I like Rap...Christmas Wrap..Some of it is really pretty.. But if you are talking about that stuff that comes out of the back of someones car I am not sure we can put a name on it. Noise comes to mind...The problem I have with this is there is really no talent involved here..You dont need to be able to carry a tune if at all you can actually sing to it..You cant understand what the guy or gal is trying to say. But it seems the 4 letter words carry pretty good.. I was a musician for 30 years and played out in bars, amusement parks, and open up for some headliners..In all those years I played Rock and Roll and Country Music..words that made sense..and music that actually has a melody..Wish I had a dollar for evertime I played Sweet Home Alabama..I could retire...So here are my lyrics about a Rap, sung to the tune of Tramp Tramp Tramp If its music that they play Then I find myself dismayed Cause my car is shaking like its gonna stall They cant hear a thing I say Cause there deaf from day to day And it really isnt music after all Thump Thump Thump That car is coming Foul mouth lyrics loud and tall But the rest, cant undertand How to play this in a band With my fife it doesnt work to well at all Huma

Ha ha. I first saw the "thump thump thump" and I immediately sang it to the tune of tramp tramp tramp. So funny. We are bona fied cw dorks. I think a couple swear words here and there are quite funny and even a form of artistic expression but over use makes me wonder. Yes, the f-bomb seems to be one of the only understandable words. That and the big B. Overkill. Everything overkill...the choice of language, the videos that go along with it and the volume that most listeners choose to play it at. Everything is for the pure shock value. Enviable lifestyle indeed. There are some R&B songs that I can tolerate. There is a difference. The ones that I can dance with my kids to and understand the words. I love Sweet Home Alabama! It was used with great taste in Forrest Gump! (that was suppose to be funny and referring to the whole discussion up there about music in movies) So Huma, were you strictly a cover band or did you guys write your own stuff as well? I can see talent there with your lyrics.

Fuller. Mostly cover stuff..Did write some songs and recorded them and sold them at gigs along with T-shirts headbands and other novel items...I figured if you dont make it in the music business after 30 years of playing then its time to give it up..Just play for my own enjoyment now and took up the fife in place of my guitar and fiddle..Never can learn to play too many instruments..Now I play CW era music on that fife...But man I can't seem to get the melody on the Rap stuff...Oh yea it has none thats why...Anyway most of the people that listen to that stuff are not smart enough to pull there pants all the way up to thier waist..And think that the bill of a cap is for letting water run down your back...Hmm...is the crotch really at the knees cause if it is Wrangler made my jeans wrong... Well what's the name of your band?! That's cool you like to play. Mom forced me to take piano as a child and I will forever be grateful. Seems you can pick up any instrument after you learn the piano. I chose to play violin so I could play classical and Civil War. Chose to pick up the guitar so I could play The Beatles. PS...had to laugh when I took a look again at our posts about "Tramp Tramp Tramp." I dunno but it sounds like a rap song to me. Or an Imus quote at least.

Fuller, Well there were numerous bands I played in but the last one I organized played from 92 to 02 and we went by the name "4 on the Floor" simply put there were 4 of us and we had the floor...And since we played a mix of Country and Southern Rock we flew the Rebel Battle Flag at all concerts. Yes even in theme parks, and at local events. When we played it flew off of the keyboards. And I tell you in 10 years of playing I only had one person ask me "Hey whats up with that flag" a young white male who had blue hair and I said "Hey whats up with your hair"..He laughed and I explained why we flew it..It was our type of music and the flag represented the Southern Rock and Country..Then I went on to ask him what he knew about the Civil War and he knew nothing of course and I encouraged him to study up on it and find out what that flag really was...He said he would.. Education is the key..One other place we played said that we would not be able to display it..I said "No problem well just tear our equipment down and leave"..Well all of the sudden it was OK to fly it.. I started with the Beatles and Beach Boys and as I got older Country Music was going crazy and thats where the money was and I also liked it..Alabama songs made me buy an Old fiddle and start learning licks to accomodate the band. Charlie Danials signed it for me so it became a treasured piece..I have met some country Stars in my endeavers and if I was 20 years younger I would still be out there doing it because I loved it and its hard to give up what you love. So with my intrest in CW I thought I think I will try playing a fife I got at Williamsburg..It played terrible since it was a walnut 10 dollar fife..Went on line and found Ed Boyles at Beafifer.com and spent some money and now I really love it..Just purchased a rare Firth and Pond Fife that can acutally be dated to 1862 on E-bay..305 dollars lighter now but a really nice historic piece.This one will go in the Curio cabnet... ijontchy: Universal Studios in Orland had an exhibition of Alfred Hitchcock movies for a copuple of years when it first opened showing how he made the movies. One part of it showed how they filmed the shower scene in Psycho. In part of it they showed it without the music and it certainly wasn't as powerful a scene without the score. As to Spielberg banging you over the head in all his movies, wheter it is with music or cheap emotional devices I have to agree with you. As to music not having a place in movies, I have to disagree.

I am a teenager and I REALLY HATE RAP!!!!!! Most people assume that I like it since I am young. My kind of MUSIC is Disco (Bee Gees, Lionel Richie)and Country (Kenny Chesney, Conway Twitty). I also like some pop and rock but I Hate rap. I think that rap is not something that young kids should listen to like they do. Ya'll can give your own opinions on kids listening to rap but I think its wrong.

For me, nothing takes the edge off a bad day at work like Led Zeppelin ["Rock & Roll"] or some similar driving hard-rock; J. Geils "Full House" album will do as well ["Hard Drivin' Man"]; some Johnny Winter perhaps ["Rollin' & Tumblin'" or "Mean Town Blues"]; early Jeff Beck ["Beck's Bolero"], Alvin Lee ["I'm Goin' Home" from Woodstock album], Bob Seger [couple o' tunes off of his "Mongrel" album] -- can you tell from what era I come from?
