I had a tough decision this morning when posting the news. I usully try to put the most important stories at the top. Well today, we had a story which, if true, would have been the top story. Problem was, I NEVER heard of the source, and couldn't find it anywhere else. So I put it at the bottom - if any of you didn't see it, here it is.... Rumors Swirl that "Last Full Measure" May Be Reviving UK--Speaking of producer Pen Densham, (see "Hereafter' article) the Civil War epic "The Last Full Measure" is in active development and scheduled TBA to shoot in the Atlanta Georgia region. Producers include Densham, John Watson, Sidney Sherman and Neil Kaplan, for New Line studios distribution, all according to the latest Production Weekly. (Offsite: Monsters & Critics.com)

Well it shows up on his list of movies on imdb. Looks like most of his stuff ends up on TV. I wonder if that is what he is planning for this? Looks like his biggest movie was Backdraft not too encouraging there. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0219720/ Interesting when you click on the movie looks like the wrong war, i.e. Vietnam http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0783640/ All the director's works have been only on TV: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0733149/ I'm confused now, either IMDB is wrong about the war covered or the news article is. My guess is the news article is wrong, even though Robert Duvall is listed as an actor in the movie. Good call Javal on not highlighting this because something is fishy. Evening all, IIRC, New Line was once owned by Ted Turner so that may be a connection. Will ask about the rumor at my Round Table Meeting on Wednesday. Fellow member Patrick Falci, who played General Hill in Gettysburg and was a historical advisor on the previous 2 films will know something of these latest developments, if there are any latest developments. If true, all I ask for those wishing to film it not to use a screenplay by Mr. Maxwell. We have all suffered enough.  Hope all are well. Regards from the Garden State, Steve Basic

I'm not sure Thailand would be right for filming an adaptation of Shaara's book, but it would fit the Vietnam description David's links gave for this movie. Hope Basecat gets something on the adaptation of Shaara's book though, would like to see them at least finish the trilogy. And hope they did better than they did with Gods and Generals.

Evening all. I did talk to Patrick tonight, and he said he had not heard anything about this at all. As far as he knows, part 3, if made, will be done in a miniseries format, and not for the big screen. Hope all are well. Regards from the Garden State, Steve Basic

If you go to Javal's link "Rumors swirl that "Last Full Measure may be reviving" you'll find a post by Jeff Sharaa of today denying that the film is based on his book , has anything to do with the Civil War but is, actually, a film about Vietnam. Regards, Sarladaise

Actually there was and is current plans on the table for the last movie in the Gods & Generals trilogy based on the The Last Full Measure book by Jeff Shaara. As of April 2010 the film was in the partial filming/production stage untill the finantial backing fell through on the project and it's currently on hold as of early May but, Atleast partial production and filming has started on the project.

Nothing on Jeff Shaara's website about it, Whilst I welcome news of it being made(if true) I can't help but feel that the film will dissapoint. Far too much goes on in the book to be condensed even into 3+hours. It would make a brilliant TV mini series ala Band of Brothers/Pacific, there's just so much that's going to be left out otherwise.

Agreed Irish. It's a pity G&G wasn't more closely based on Shaara's excellent book as well. But it would have required a 10 hour mini series to cover everything...which of course I would most happily watch.

Well, if they do make the final version I hope they get competent makeup artists (I am available!) to do the facial hair work. The beards and mustaches on GETTYSBURG were just horrible! The ones (except Duvall's) were not much better. But with the way money is now for financing, it will likely not happen for a while.

this is not the movie you think it is... this Movie is about An ambitious government bureaucrat is given an unwelcome assignment that could harm his carefully orchestrated career, to complete a long-unfinished report on whether the nation's highest award for bravery should, after 40 years, be given to a fallen hero. His investigation leads him down a path he could not have imagined and changes his life and the lives of others in the process. Has absolutly nothing to do with Jeff Shera or the Civil War

A friend of mine, on one of his visits to Gettysburg, Jeff Shaara was there signing books. My friend asked him if "Last Full Measure" was going to be made into a movie, and Jeff replied that Turner had no intention of making that last movie because they lost too much money on "Gods and Generals".

No surprise there.....I saw G&G in a nearly empty theater the weekend it opened....there really is no popular demand for these type of movies...they require too much thought...it's easier to sit through the latest Will Smith tripe.

Careful what you say, someone may "hear" you and they might do like they did with the disappointing remake of "Wild Wild West" where they had him play James West. Can you see it now, they have him playing the part of Robert E. Lee.......I'd better stop before I make myself physically ill.....

There are 2 civil war subjects that I think would make a great film: 1. Manhunt---about Booth's escape into Maryland and Virginia and death at the Garrett Farm would be interesting to all. Can you see Mel Gibson as Booth? 2. The time period in April 1865 from the fall of Richmond, Petersburg, then Appomattox to the Lincoln assassination is an interesting time period. But maybe only to us (?)
