Evening all.

Noticed on the news page a story for the upcoming movie "Seraphim Falls".  The movie opens on January 26th, and judging from the trailer, it will be something I will go see that weekend.

Here is the address for the home page of the movie.  On the site it does have the trailer, and various other information about the film.

I've seen the previews in the theaters last month and thought the movie looked very interesting. The previews are very moody, atmospheric, have a tone of dread and gloom. I can't wait...my kind of movie.

When the heck is "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford"  with Brad Pitt as Jesse ever going to be released?  The previews have the same kind of feeling and music as the "Seraphim Falls" previews. In fact, when the Sf previews started to run I thought it was a new preview for "Jesse James."

Just saw part of an interview with Liam Niesen and Pierce Bronson on Seraphim Falls.  They said it opening next week.  I found it interesting listening to one man with a clipped British accent and another Irish accent talking about playing a Union and a Confederate soldiers afer the war.  I know there were many Irish etc in the war but it still interesting that these are the two playing the parts.  Of course they are both outstanding actors.  It is apparently a very dark western.  The Union officer has during the war been responsisble for the death of the Confederate's whole family.  The two actors said it is a story of revenge and redemtions .

"Queen" is an excellent movie and worth waiting until the DVD comes out.  It isn't the kind of movie with lots of sound effects and computer designed graphics that requires the big screen and powerful speakers. It is a quiet, but very moving screen play.  Hellen Mirren really does deserve the golden Globe she won for this movie. I think she is niminated for an Oscar for this role as well. I am sorry the movie hasn't done better in the box office. It amazes me that some of the trash out there earns fifty million or more and this priceless gem of a movie hasn't broken twenty million yet, if even that much. I hope it will sell lots of DVDs.

Have you seen Pitt in "Babel". He isn't a pretty boy any more. So feel free to "give Jesse James a shot"...if and when the movie is ever released.:D

younglobo, the unintended puns are the BEST!  They just slip out, and they're always funnier than those contrived jokes.  Patty

I was wondering the same thing. It evidently never came to my area and there are many theaters near me. I wonder if it pulled a "disappearing act" like "The Assassination of Jesse James." I hope it will come out on DVD soon so maybe we can see it that way.

I saw it on Super Bowl Sunday afternoon and enjoyed it a lot.  Am glad I did so, because it was only playing at one theater here, and was quickly gone the next week.

Am sure the DVD will be out in a couple of months, and I recommend you getting a copy.  Both Neeson and Brosnan were great in their roles, and the cinematography of the movie was outstanding.

Hope all are well.

Finally saw this film last night and must say I enjoyed it.  We had  one failed attempt to see the film when the rib and rug rats called me at work to ask if there was anything I wanted to see from the video store.  When I got home that night, they told me Blockbuster had no record of a film named “Sarah from Falls :D.”  But a couple of days later, that miscommunication corrected, they retrieved it and I found it to be an above average film.  But I’m glad I waited for the DVD so I could rewind and watch parts of it again, as the film makes a decided shift from a nearly pure action film to mystical and philosophical.  On first viewing, I grinded my gears on that shift.  I was lying back eating my popcorn being entertained and not expecting a shift.  Even a brief foreshadowing in the middle of the film of the philosophical content left me asking, what was the point of that?  So when the film shifted gears, it caught me unprepared and I was left wondering,  what’s happening?  So to prepare viewers without spoiling the film, when the Wes Studi Indian character is introduced at the water hole, start paying attention to what is said  between the main characters and the two new characters introduced there and shortly thereafter.  Note  how the words apply metaphorically to the two main characters.  I’ll leave it to you to figure how who the two new characters may be.

Up until that point, this is an action packed Rambo meets Outlaw Josie Wales meets the last half of Apocolypto film.  In fact more than one plot device in this film is taken nearly direct from the latter film.  So it is worth a rent, just be prepared for the shift and a Christian message that doesn’t seem to come out of Hollywood very much anymore.  Also be prepared, some of the blood and guts is graphic and if that bothers you, it may not be your cup of tea.  That being said, it is definitely tamer than Mel Gibson’s Apocolypto, that I compared it to earlier.

Hubby and I just watched the movie having rented it from Netflix. I really enjoyed it, but it was too slow-paced for Hubby whose taste runs to "Die Hard."

I had billed the film to Hubby as a Civil War film when it really turned out to be a vengence for a Civil War atrocity played out three years later. The film shows a harsh view of humanity or at least a harsh view of how times post-war were even in the far west. Nobody had it easy in those times.

For me, I was a liitle disappointed when the film turned into an apparition-like story whose final moments were spiritual.  For some reason I suspected all along the finale between the two leads would end in a similar way, but not in exactly that way.  This sounds foggy, but I'm trying not to give the end away.

Pierce Brosnan was amazing as the grizzled tormented former Yankee captain on the run. It may be the best acting I have ever seen him do. I can't imagine anyone else in the role. Maybe he should be considered for an Oscar, but so few people have seen this film and probably so few people will that no one will think of Brosnan at Oscar time.

Very few movies have dealt with post Civil War themes.  This story does deal with the fact that the emotional wounds of the war endured long after it was over.

:)  Glad you both liked it as much as I did.  Guess that means 5 folks actually have seen the movie...us 3 and the 2 guys in the movie theater with me on Super Bowl Sunday. :)

Shame that it did not garner more attention, but it's a western and that's to be expected.

Hope all is well.
