Last night my good friend Larry Rogers was robbed. Larry is the author of Their Horses Climbed Trees a history of the Californians in the Second Massachusetts Cavalry. His great grandfather Abraham Loane was a member of Company A, the California Hundred. The thief took the Colt revolver that Abraham carried through the war as well as the pipe he carved while in Andersonville prison. I know we have collectors out there. Keep a sharp eye if you would for these items. Larry is a true gentleman and I would love to see these heirlooms returned to him. Tom The items can be viewed at this website. Click on Abraham Loane's "Mosby" Colt and his pipe. http://2mass.omnica.com/artifacts.htm Last edited on Fri Jan 26th, 2007 01:12 am by calcav |

Tom, See if he has a photo of the gun. If so, mail it to me and we'll post it so everyone can keep an eye on e-bay....

Hey folks, I just recived this email from Larry. Tom: We just got word from our local Police Dept. that the thief has been apprehended, here in Concord, while driving a stolen van loaded with items he had taken during a series of multiple burglaries thruout the area. The Police tell us that the CW material (gun & pipe) and other personal items are all intact, but it will take a few days before we and others can go and ID the itmes and bring them home. We really appreciate your support and the ssupport of the CW community during this short but emotional experience. There was a lot of soul searching as the Police thought it had to be an inside job, so they quizzed us on friends, family etc. Of course we still don't know if the person is someone we mite know, that will come later I guess. Take care, big Hi to Nita . Larry

Tom, So what is the latest with Larry? Did those items get damaged at all? It was great to see the CW community band together to try and stop the thief from selling them. Fuller

Fuller, Due to the nature of the robbery it appeared the thief was well informed as to what was in the house and where it was kept. As it turns out, he was a complete stranger. Larry got the pipe back right away but had to wait 3 weeks to get the pistol back due to some quirk in the California gun laws. He used to keep the items on display in the house but has since put them in a more secure location. Tom (calcav)
