Hot dang!, aggie friend. Wish I'd have said it as well as you did. I accept as fact what your sociologist acquaintance theorized: survival instinct. Can't get rid of it, but can learn to live with it. I recommend Robert Ardrey for those interested in pursuing instinctual behavior. Territorial Imperative, Social Contract and Hunting Hypothesis. Not fun reads, but eye-opening.
