Does anyone know of a website that has free downloadable fonts that would be representative of the civil war period?

May not be necessary jbeatty. Times Roman was one of the prevalent fonts used. There were others, but for text, Times Roman was the standard.

64th: It's where all knowledge comes from Actually it's called typeface in the old vernacular, i.e. style of letters in print.

A font is also the stand wherein lies the basin of water used to baptize babies in some Christian sects. To draw out the subject to a ridiculous extent, the font is a complete set of pieces of type in a named style (face), with letters supplied in proportion to their common use; i.e., a font contained many more esses and ees than jays. Probably should go to sleep now. ole

As an afterthought, Bookman and Copperplate are old faces and would have been used to differentiate ads from editorials. If you go to your word processing program and find copperplate (it might be called Bank Gothic), you'll immediately recognize it. ole

Texas Defender wrote: ".....always puts up a brave font." Now, that was clever! So clever that I'm glad my name was associated with it, no matter how it is to taken.
