Missouri's Civil War

http://www.mocivilwar.org
This Editor's Choice site, Missouri's Civil War, goes far beyond
being the best Civil War tourism site on the Internet. In our
opinion it qualifies as one of the best Civil War sites - period.
The site is intended to get you to visit Missouri's Civil War
history, and we have little doubt it will succeed. The site
promises animated tour maps in the future as well.
Mr. Lincoln's White House

http://www.mrlincolnswhitehouse.org/index.html
This is a gem that we were unaware of until a reader suggested it.
This site is so nicely developed, and so loaded with primary and
secondary information, that we doubt our review could do it justice.
The main site is broken into seven segments including full (and
fully footnoted) histories and accounts of Lincoln's time in the
White House, the White House itself, nearby Washington, etc. Each of
these is divided yet again to more specific topics and people. One
of the best Civil War related websites out there, and deserving of
our highest award.
Nat'l. Museum of Civil War Medicine

http://www.civilwarmed.org/index.cfm
Outstanding site dedicated to a vital topic. This site not only
gives you all the information you would need for a trip to the
museum, but serves a research function as well. Be sure not to miss
the "Exhibits" section for some great info on CW medicine. The
"Collections" section contains an impressive bibliography for those
wishing to learn more. Great site!

Ohio in the Civil War

http://www.ohiocivilwar.com/
Extremely informative site! Check out the histories of almost every
Ohio unit, each with a bibliography. Also includes a searchable
database and a discussion board. Nice site!
On the Blue and Gray Trail:

The Civil War in North Georgia and Chattanooga
http://ngeorgia.com/blueandgray/
Papers of Jefferson Davis

http://jeffersondavis.rice.edu/
This is a project of Rice University and exudes quality. The
documents section contains letters and writings that go far in
showing Davis the man, as well as Davis the politician. The
genealogy section does a great job of what it's designed to do. The
chronology is superb and thorough. There's also a good bibliography
and FAQ (which has an interesting account regarding his middle name)
A vital site for the study of Davis, and an excellent job by the
crew of Rice. Well deserving of our Editor's Choice award!
Parker's Crossroads Battlefield
Association

http://www.parkerscrossroads.com/
The "home field" of Civil War Interactive! Very nice website which
features a slide-show presentation of the battle. Also a nice
section on the various commanders on both sides. Constantly updated.
Great job by the folks just down the road from CWi.
Pinstripe Press

http://www.pinstripepress.net/
Can a site that mixes the Civil War, baseball and religion really
earn a 5-Star Award? You bet! There's more than enough high-quality
Civil War content here to qualify it as so, including great essays
and book reviews, a free Civil War coloring book for the kids, and
lots more. Just consider the baseball content a bonus. Wonderful
site.
Seven Millionth Volume:

Gardner’s Photographic Sketch Book of the War
http://rmc.library.cornell.edu/7milVol/
Thirty images from Gardner’s Photographic Sketch Book of the War are
presented on this web site, digitized according to the standards
outlined in the digitization section of the site. The images are
accompanied by Gardner’s original captions, written when the volume
was first published in 1865, and organized into seven themes. Very
nice!
Shotgun's Home of the Civil War

http://www.civilwarhome.com/
Nothing we like better than a webmaster who is not afraid of airing
his or her opinion! Lots of great stuff here, but don't miss the
opinion section. A site that's growing nicely. Truly the cream of
the crop for general Civil War research. Bumped up to "Editor's
Choice" site.
Signal Corps Association

www.civilwarsignals.org
State of New York and the Civil War

http://www.nycivilwar.us/
If you have ever stumbled across a superb website, and wonder how
you missed it for so long, then you'll understand our reaction when
we saw this place. What a fantastic resource! Great job by the
webmaster.
Stonewall's Surgeon: Hunter Holmes McGuire

http://www.huntermcguire.goellnitz.org/index.html
This is a another great site by web mistress Jenny Goellintz, who is
also responsible for the 5-Star "And Then A.P. Hill Came Up" site
listed above. This site is not only a superb reference site for info
about McGuire, but also Civil War medicine in general. Wonderful
job!
Tennessee Division - SCV
http://www.tennessee-scv.org/
In short, this is a downright beautiful site. When we review a site,
we usually spend apx.10-15 minutes examining it. We were here for
over two hours. Do not miss this site!
Texas Division - SCV

http://www.texas-scv.org/
We're not great fans of frames sites, but this one is done with
great organization and care. Jam packed with information, including
links to other SCV sites. Very nicely done! Update 11/03- frames are
gone, and loads of material added. Nicely updated. A very striking
site. Bumped from 4 to 5-star.
To The Limits Of The Soul's Ideal

http://www.joshua.lurker00.com/
Without a doubt this is THE definitive site for those looking for
information on Joshua Chamberlain. From birth to death, this is a
painstakingly researched life story using both primary and secondary
sources. Great reading - great research site!
United States Civil War Center at LSU

http://www.civilwarhome.com/indexcivilwarinfo.htm
One of the pioneer Civil War sites, and still among the best places
to go to find out what's out there on the Internet. Recent
improvements make it somewhat easier to find your way around. An
indispensable asset, it's a "master-index" to the war on the net.
US Civil War Generals

http://sunsite.utk.edu/civil-war/generals.html
This is hands-down one of the most useful reference sites on the
Internet. Biographical sketches of the generals of both sides during
the war. Organizing that amount of data is staggering, and webmaster
Kerry Webb did a masterful job. The sketches themselves are
top-notch, with all the biographical information you would expect,
and then some. Most handy are the fields for "additional reading"
and "On the Internet", where the webmaster often has relevant
websites for that entry linked. A massive undertaking done superbly,
and deserving of 5-Stars!
The US Regulars Archive

http://www.usregulars.com/
Vermont In The Civil War

http://www.vermontcivilwar.org/index.shtml
This site is simply incredible, and it's been upgraded to an
"Editor's Choice" site from 5-stars. We've been rating websites on
CWi for eight years now, and rarely have we seen so much research
material gathered together in such an organized and aesthetically
pleasing manner. The amount of work that went into this boggles the
mind. Incredible as it seems, there's even more major improvements
in the works. One of the best Civil War sites on the
Internet...without a doubt.
Virtual Civil War

http://www.mikelynaugh.com/VirtualCivilWar/index.html
West Virginia In The Civil War

http://www.wvcivilwar.com/
Well-organized site focuses on the role of West Virginia in the war,
and does it very well. Complete rosters (both Union and
Confederate), Medal of Honor winners, battles and skirmishes, and
more. A Discussion Board and events calendar keep the site current,
all done in an attractive and logical format. Good job by the
webmasters on this one!
